Faithful Stewardship
Teaching on Stewardship
Topic: Faithful Stewardship — Managing What God Has Entrusted to Us
Key Scripture:
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2
Stewardship is the responsibility of managing faithfully what God has entrusted to us. Everything we have—our life, time, abilities, opportunities, finances, relationships, and possessions—ultimately belongs to God.
We are not permanent owners; we are stewards.
1. Everything belongs to God
Psalm 24:1 says:
“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
What we possess comes from God. Our responsibility is to use what He has given us in a way that honors Him.
Your money belongs to God.
Your time belongs to God.
Your gifts belong to God.
Your opportunities belong to God.
Your influence belongs to God.
The question is not simply, “What do I have?”
The greater question is:
“What am I doing with what God has given me?”
2. We are entrusted with different things
Jesus taught about stewardship in the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14–30.
The master gave different amounts to his servants. He expected each servant to do something productive with what he had received.
This teaches us that God does not require everyone to have the same gifts or resources.
Some have more.
Some have less.
Some have different opportunities.
But everyone has something to steward.
Don’t compare your assignment with someone else’s assignment.
Be faithful with what God has placed in your hands.
3. Stewardship requires faithfulness
1 Corinthians 4:2 says:
“It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
God is looking for faithful people.
Faithfulness means:
- Doing what is right even when nobody is watching.
- Taking care of what has been entrusted to you.
- Using your gifts responsibly.
- Keeping your commitments.
- Honoring God with your resources.
- Being trustworthy.
You may not have much today, but faithfulness with little prepares you for greater responsibility.
4. Stewardship of time
Time is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.
Ephesians 5:15–16 teaches us to walk wisely and redeem the time.
Money lost can sometimes be recovered.
Opportunities lost may sometimes return.
But time that has passed cannot be recovered.
Ask yourself:
“Am I using my time for things that bring me closer to God’s purpose for my life?”
Don’t spend all your time entertaining yourself while neglecting your purpose.
5. Stewardship of your gifts and talents
God has placed abilities inside you for a purpose.
1 Peter 4:10 says:
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
Your gift is not only for your personal benefit.
Your singing can bless people.
Your teaching can educate people.
Your business can create opportunities.
Your leadership can influence others.
Your creativity can solve problems.
A gift becomes more powerful when it is used to serve others.
6. Stewardship of money
Money itself is not evil. The Bible teaches us to handle it wisely and responsibly.
Proverbs 21:5 says:
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness.”
Good stewardship includes:
- Budgeting wisely.
- Avoiding unnecessary debt.
- Saving responsibly.
- Giving generously.
- Supporting God’s work.
- Taking care of legitimate responsibilities.
- Avoiding waste and reckless spending.
God doesn’t bless irresponsibility.
Learn to manage what you have before asking God for more.
7. Stewardship of relationships
People are also part of what God entrusts to us.
Your family, friends, church members, colleagues, and people you influence deserve to be treated with love and respect.
Proverbs 27:17 says:
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
Don’t destroy valuable relationships through pride, dishonesty, jealousy, or unforgiveness.
Be a good steward of the people God has placed around you.
8. Stewardship of your body
Our bodies also matter to God.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 teaches that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, we should treat our bodies with respect and responsibility.
Take care of yourself. Avoid practices that deliberately destroy your wellbeing. Remember that your body is part of your service to God.
9. Stewardship of opportunities
Some opportunities come only once.
Esther was given an opportunity to influence the destiny of her people.
Esther 4:14 says:
“Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
Your current position may be an opportunity from God.
Your workplace may be an opportunity.
Your business may be an opportunity.
Your platform may be an opportunity.
Your influence may be an opportunity.
Don’t waste the opportunity God has placed before you.
10. God rewards faithful stewardship
In Matthew 25, the faithful servants were commended by their master.
The principle is powerful:
Faithfulness with what you have can lead to greater responsibility.
Don’t despise small beginnings.
Don’t say:
“I don’t have enough.”
Start with what you have.
The question is not always how much you have.
The question is how faithfully you use what you have.
Three Questions Every Steward Should Ask
1. What has God entrusted to me?
Identify your gifts, resources, relationships, time, opportunities, and responsibilities.
2. How am I managing them?
Are you wasting them, neglecting them, or using them wisely?
3. What will I present to God?
One day, we will give an account of how we lived and what we did with what was entrusted to us.
Conclusion
Stewardship is not merely about money.
Stewardship is about responsibility.
God has placed something in your hands.
Your responsibility is to protect it, develop it, multiply it, and use it for His glory.
Don’t bury your talent.
Don’t waste your time.
Don’t misuse your resources.
Don’t neglect your opportunity.
Be faithful.
Declaration
I declare that I am a faithful steward of everything God has entrusted to me. I will use my time wisely, develop my gifts, manage my resources responsibly, honor God with my possessions, and serve others with what He has placed in my hands. I will not waste my opportunities or bury my talents. May God give me wisdom, discipline, diligence, and grace to produce good results. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
