4. BRIEF HISTORY
Adventist Girls Senior High School, (ADGISS) started as a co-educational institute with the name Adventist Secondary /Technical School (ASTECH).
Prominent bodies/personalities who engineered its establishment include the Seventh Day Adventist Church – Ntonso, through Elders as John Oti, Adomako, Peter Boakye, etc. Mr. I. K Boateng the then Metro Director of Education also played an active role in the direction. Today, it is a full-fledged girls’ senior high school and popularly known as AHWEFO.
The transformation from mixed to single-sex system remains a remarkable event in the history of the school. Several difficult hurdles obviously had to be cleared before ADGISS could become what it is today. The major problem the school faced was on land acquisition. In 2005, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II demarcated a 53.4 acre land on which the school is sited today. This came as welcome respite to end the protracted land litigation.
Following the Ghana Education Service approval of the girls’ school and subsequent absorption into the public mainstream in 2005, ADGISS became and still remains the only female second cycle institution in the Kwabre District and the first of its kind among SDA institutions not only in Ghana but the whole of Africa.
