BRIEF HISTORY OF INSTITUTION
SCHOOL’S ENTRANCE
Bawku Senior High School was formally opened on October 11, 1963 with a student population of 50 under the headship of the late Dr. Agyeman Dickson and 3 teachers. It was also previously called Azoka Secondary School. It was one of the Secondary Institutions established by the Ghana Education Trust.
The school is located on the western part of the town and about 5 kilometres away from the nerve centre of the town on the main Bawku-Bolgatanga road. It has been sited on a large tract of land about 100 hectares and has the potential for great expansion.
The school is purely boarding.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS
SSCE
The school performed creditably during the phased out SSCE which saw a lot of the student entering the University to pursue various courses.
WASSCE
The academic performance of the school has improved tremendously over the past few years. The 2009 WASSCE results in which the school scored 100% passes for the first time since 1993 is an ample proof of the positive wind of change blowing over the academic fortunes of the school.
NATIONAL SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS QUIZ
The school has participated in the National Science and Mathematics Quiz on two occasions in 1995 and 2007.
REGIONAL GAMES, ETC
The school contributes sports boys and girls to the regional teams each year. For example in 2009 14 sports boys and girls from this school were part of the Regional Sports contingent that participated in the Inter-Regional Sports Festival in Accra in August 2009.
