Who We Are
The College of Nursing, Ntotroso, can best be described as the first nursing college (RGN) to be established in Ahafo in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. Recognizing the fact that life has no substitute and a healthy people is an asset in nation building, BARIMA TWEREKU AMPEM III, the Omanhene of the Traditional Council, conceived the idea of establishing a nursing institute in 2011. The College is the brain child of the Omanhene of Ntotroso. The 2012 edition of Apomasu Festival of the chiefs and people of the then Ahafo North Divisional Council celebrated at Ntotroso centered on the theme: Quality Health-The role of a Nursing School; the untiring and sacrifice of the Omanhene and his people, as well as the significant role played by Newmont/NADeF as funding partners plus the special support of OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II (Asantehene), collectively brought the College of Nursing, Ntotroso into reality. As an add up, the seed money five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵5000.00) donated by His Excellency JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA. (The President of the Republic of Ghana) started the process of establishing this great health institute. Thus, this College of Nursing is dear to the hearts of the people of Ntotroso and her environs, as well as the entire nation. To this end, as a welcome and salute the founding fathers; significantly names such as Barima Twereku Ampem III (the first Omanhene of Ntotroso), Nana Kwartemaa Amponsah (Omanhemaa, Ntotroso),
Ms. Shirley Aryeteh (the then Minister of Health, Ghana), Mr. Felix Nyantey (Registrar for Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana), Honourable Kwame Saarah-Mensah (Chairman, NADeF Board of Trustees/Advisory Board Chairman CON), Mr. Kwaku Duah Danquah of the National Security Council, Mr. Joseph Danso (Then Executive Secretary, NADeF), Mr. Kojo Bedu-Addo ( Newmont Gold Ghana Limited), Mr. J.B. Ntim-Adjei (Member, NADeF Board), Nana Eric Antwi ( Chairman SDC, Member Advisory board CON Ntotroso), Honourable Eric Addae (District Chief Executive, Asutifi North). The College of Nursing, Ntotroso is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) which shall award the certificate of Diploma to her products. The College currently runs a three year programme in Registered General Nursing (RGN), and plans are far advanced to add up other nursing programmes to augment the health needs of the community the College serves.
