BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Samuel Otu Presbyterian Senior High School, located in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region of Ghana was established in 1974 as a private institution by Mr. Kwaku Boateng from Duayaw-Nkwanta with the name Evangelical Technical School.

It started with a student population of Forty-Five (45) and Five (5) teachers. Mr. Kwaku Boateng doubled as the Founder and the First Headmaster of the school. The school was then taken over by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the 1980 when the name of the school then became ’Presbyterian Day/Commercial School’
During the 1984/85 academic year, the school was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a public institution under the Ghana Education Service (GES) with Mr. Danso Kwarpong as the Headmaster.

In the same year, the school received assistance from the European Economic Community (EEC) through the Bureau of Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) of the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in the provision of building materials. Thus , through communal labour of local citizens, a new block of four(4) classrooms was put up.

In 2017, the name of the school changed again to SAMUEL OTU PRESBYTERIAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in honour of Samuel Otu, the first Ghanaian Christian martyr who happened to be a Presbyterian Minister. He was murdered in Techimantia, the community where the school is located. Currently, the school is under the headship of Mr. Evans Asare.
